What would you pay for in-home tutoring?

The tutoring service I might use is charging $50/hour for tutoring. They come to your house and work with your child there. You pay by the week, and there are no contracts or anything. The other places I’ve looked at are $55 or $65 an hour. And places like Sylvan have contracts and lots of testing fees. Plus, they tutor your child in groups with other kids, which I don’t like.

How much should a tutor charge? To be honest with you, it really depends on a couple of factors. For example, what credentials the tutor has. Also, it depends on the area you are located in. If it’s in a bigger city then you can expect higher rates since there will be more people who require tutoring services (the old supply and demand theory!). If you live in a more affluent neighborhood, you could also be charged more.

All said, hiring a private tutor for in-home tutoring is still the best way to go. However, if money is an issue, you can opt for online tutoring instead. Try some online tutoring services like:
