Essay- Wrote about the protest and how it affected me.

Going for: Corporate law

You have the numbers for it… the real question is how good was your essay… frankly the fact that you wrote about some protest and how it affected you isn’t going to stand out, lots of applicants write about something trite like that. A better choice might have been to write about the art of fly fishing, or something different that you are passionate about. Most of the YLS classmates I had shared one common thread… they had something different about them… yes there were a few of the ones that just had the good grades, good school and right parents… but the other had something that made them stand out. Maybe in the past being a protester would have gotten you a few brownie points, the can also come across as the things that are so common that one ends up wondering if they were done because the person had a true burning passion or was just doing it because they thought it would look good on a law school application.

The big unknown is what was said by the professors you used for references. In your case those are make or break.

Finally… I sorry to tell you this but if you want to focus on corporate law, Yale is not the place you want to go to…. I think I took every class they offered with a hint of corporate law in it and could count those classes on one hand…. Yale is more theory of law and less nuts and bolts…. its a good place to enjoy life and find yourself, but not a good place if you know your passion is corporate law.

 The Adolescent

The Adolescent

$23

This superb new translation–never before published–of one of Dostoevsky’s major novels comes from the award-winning translators Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky. The Adolescent (originally published in English as A Raw Youth) is markedly different in tone from Dostoevsky’s other masterpieces. It is told from the point of view of the nineteen-year-old narrator, whose immaturity, freshness, and naivete are unforgettably reflected in his narrative voice. The illegitimate son of a landowner, Arkady Dolgoruky was raised by foster parents and tutors, and has scarcely ever seen his father, Versilov, and his mother, Versilov’s peasant common-law wife. Arkady goes to Petersburg to meet this accidental family and to confront the father who dominates his imagination and whom he both disdains and longs to impress. Having sewn into his coat a document that he believes gives him power over others, Arkady proceeds with an irrepressible youthful volatility that withstands blunders and humiliations at every turn. Dostoevsky masterfully depicts adolescence as a state of uncertainty, ignorance, and incompleteness, but also of richness and exuberance, in which everything is still possible. His tale of a youth finding his way in the disorder of Russian society in the 1870s is a high and serious comedy that borders on both farce and tragedy.

Ethics, communication skills, and the law (‘practice skills’) are important in all aspects of modern health care. Well developed skills ofcommunication, with patients, their relatives and other members of the clinical team, are a key feature of good clinical practice Until recently, the important of practice skills has been relatively neglected in health care education. This situation is changing. The UK General Medical Council, for example, has recently identified three aspects as part of the core of the medical course, and the move to degree courses innursing has led to an increasing focus of practice skills in nurse education. The Power of Problem-Based Learning

The Power of Problem-Based Learning

$24.95

Problem-based learning is a powerful classroom process, which uses real world problems to motivate students to identify and apply research concepts and information, work collaboratively and communicate effectively. It is a strategy that promotes life-long habits of learning. The University of Delaware is recognized internationally as a center of excellence in the use and development of PBL. This book presents the cumulative knowledge and practical experience acquired over nearly a decade of integrating PBL in courses in a wide range of disciplines. This how to book for college and university faculty. It focuses on the practical questions which anyone wishing to embark on PBL will want to know: Where do I start? How do you find problems? What do I need to know about managing groups? How do you grade in a PBL course? The book opens by outlining how the PBL program was developed at the University of Delaware — covering such issues as faculty mentoring and institutional support — to offer a model for implementation for other institutions. The authors then address the practical questions involved in course transformation and planning for effective problem-based instruction, including writing problems, using the Internet, strategies for using groups, the use of peer tutors and assessment. They conclude with case studies from a variety of disciplines, including biochemistry, pre-law, physics, nursing, chemistry, political science and teacher education This introduction for faculty, department chairs and faculty developers will assist them to successfully harness this powerful process to improve learning outcomes.
